Massa's time of 1:20.539 was only six-hundreths back of Hamilton, while Sutil was 0.139 seconds behind, Vettel 0.195 and Schumacher 0.273. "They look very strong, no doubt, but it's still going to depend on what people bring to Bahrain," Schumacher said of McLaren's car. On Friday, Schumacher said the German team was unlikely to be fighting for a win at the season opener, but on Sunday he said that things were "slowly coming together." "Everyone had a go on low fuel loads and we're not a long way off, just a few tenths of where we want to be," Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn said.
"There's a new package for Bahrain and I hope that is going to make the difference." Mercedes isn't going into the 19-race season with the clear performance advantage that the former Brawn GP team enjoyed last year, when it survived Honda's exit to surprise everyone by taking the driver's and constructor's titles.

F1: Final day of winter testing for Hamilton and McLaren in Barcelona (The Welwyn & Hatfield Times)]
The 25-year-old from Herts will climb into the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-25 cockpit for the last time during winter testing at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. Hamilton takes over behind the wheel from F1 world champion Jenson Button, who was third quickest on Saturday. Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg was quickest yesterday with Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Buemi also faster than Button. Today will be the final day’s running for Hamilton before the season kicks off with the Bahrain Grand Prix in two weeks’ time. The 2008 world champion was only eighth fastest in Barcelona on the second day of testing on Friday, with Nico Hulkenberg setting the pace for Williams ahead of Ferrari newcomer Fernando Alonso. He was also almost half a second slower than seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher in the Mercedes GP. Hamilton continued the development work his team-mate began the day before, refining set-up and evaluating tyres. The morning was spent conducting shorter runs, atte

February 28, 2010, 9:06 am Updated: 1:03 pm --> Mario Andretti Turns 70 Goes to Bahrain By BRAD SPURGEON Darron Cummings/The Associated Press Mario Andretti with his nephew John Andretti at the Indianapolis 500 last May.
Happy birthday to Mario Andretti, who turns 70 today. And the party will continue to the first race of the F1 season as Andretti will go to Bahrain to be part of the celebrations of the 60 years of the Formula One World Championship, and he will be joined by a bunch of other champions and his Lotus 79 in which he won the 1978 title.
I can t believe Andretti is 70 now. It seems like yesterday I was interviewing him for the first time at Le Mans in 1996 when he was still trying to win the one big title that eluded him, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Not only did Andretti win 12 Grands Prix races in his 13 seasons in F1 with teams such as Lotus, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Williams but he also won the IndyCar title four times, the 1969 I read more »

Italian Flair for Geneva's Show Saturday, February 27, 2010 By PHIL PATTON, The New York Times WITH the unveiling of new concept cars at the Geneva auto show this week, Pininfarina and other Italian carrozzerie plan to allay some of the concern over the future of the country's famed design houses.
These celebrated coachbuilders, which produce design studies and sometimes build small runs of vehicles under contract, have long been the gold standard of automotive aesthetics. Yet economic hardships and family tragedies in recent years have raised doubts about their survival. The strongest statement of their determination to survive and evolve will be in the displays at the Geneva show, which opens for press previews on Tuesday and runs through March 14. Pininfarina, creator of many memorable Ferraris and Maseratis, will show a concept for an Alfa Romeo spider, as the Italians call a sporty convertible.
